FONAR INSTALLS FIRST OF THREE
STAND-UP MRI'S SOLD TO
KENTUCKY PHYSICIAN GROUP
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, April 6, 2004 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The
MRI Specialist™, announced today the installation of the
first of three Stand-Up™ MRIs sold to a physician group
in Kentucky. The scanner was installed in Open Stand Up MRI
at 5001 Houston Road in Florence, which is located off Interstate
75 near the Cincinnatti/Northern Kentucky National Airport [(859)
514-0146].
Sol
Ginzburg, vice president of sales at FONAR said, "The three
sales to this Kentucky group are noteworthy because the group
purchased two additional Stand-Up™ MRI scanners even before
the first one was installed. It is a remarkable demonstration
of the customer's confidence in the diagnostic and marketing
advantages of this product. We now have 14 multi-unit purchasers
of the Stand-Up™ MRI. In fact, about two thirds of all
Stand-Up™ MRI sales have been to multi-unit purchasers,
which speaks volumes about our customers' satisfaction with
our product."
A
physician at Open Stand Up MRI said, "Certain pathology
cannot be detected with a patient scanned in a
lie-down position, which is the only position every other type
of MRI scanner allows. This unique diagnostic advantage does
not come at the expense of image quality. The Stand-Up™
MRI is twice as powerful as most Open MRI scanners, and referring
physicians find its images are comparable to those of high-field
scanners."
A
spokesman for Open Stand Up MRI said, "Our new Stand-Up™
MRI is the only MRI that does Position™ Imaging (pMRI™),
which means patients can be scanned in the positions in which
they experience pain or their symptoms. It is the only scanner
that allows physicians to evaluate their patients in weight-bearing
postures. Scans may be taken while sitting, standing, bending,
in flexion or extension, or in the conventional recumbent position.
Approximately 85% of the time, patients are scanned in the sitting
position, which is the most comfortable position.
"The
revolutionary design of the Stand-Up™ MRI allows patients
to simply walk in and be scanned. The Stand-Up™ MRI allows
all parts of the body, particularly the spine and joints, to
be imaged in the weight bearing state. The system is equipped
with the unique MRI-compatible motorized patient handling system
that will move the patient into the magnet and place the anatomy
of interest into the center of the magnet gap. It also can rotate
the vertically-oriented patient into a horizontal position so
the patient can be scanned lying down just like in the case
of a traditional MRI. It is the only system in the world where
you can actually watch TV during the imaging procedure."
Mr.
Ginzburg added, "By the way, Open Stand-Up MRI did a excellent
job on their Web site. It has several studies that make a compelling
case for Upright Imaging, and it points out the many advantages
that the Stand Up™ MRI offers to both patients and referring
physicians. I recommend that anyone interested in the Stand-Up
MRI visit www.openstandupmri.com."
