FONAR SELLS AND INSTALLS UPRIGHT
MRI AT
YALE-NEW HAVEN TEMPLE RADIOLOGY
- Renowned Medical Leader Acquires
FONAR Revolutionary MRI Technology -
MELVILLE,
NEW YORK, November 23, 2004 - FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR),
The MRI Specialist™, today announced the sale and installation
of a FONAR Upright™ MRI to Yale-New Haven's Temple Radiology,
located at 40 Temple Street in New Haven, CT. With this installation,
Yale-New Haven Temple Radiology becomes the first outpatient
radiology department in the state of Connecticut to offer and
use this new diagnostic approach to scanning patients.
"We
selected the FONAR Upright™ MRI because it is the only
scanner that allows us to see a complete picture of patients'
pathologies as they are experiencing pain and discomfort,"
said Richard Knobleman, M.D., medical director of Yale-New Haven
Ambulatory Services Corporation/Temple Radiology. "The
difference in this new technology is like night and day. The
Upright™ MRI allows patients to be scanned in various
positions - standing, sitting, lying down or positions in-between,
which means we now can really hone in on the exact nature of
our patients' discomforts and factor that information into our
treatment strategies. Moreover, we believe this technology enables
us to perform more accurate surgical procedures."
The
FONAR Upright™ MRI is the first and only whole-body Upright™
imaging system to perform Position™ imaging (pMRI™),
a revolution in MRI. Position™ imaging enables patients
to be scanned in the position of their symptoms, allowing doctors
to view certain pathologies that are otherwise invisible when
scanned in the traditional recumbent position. In addition,
the FONAR Upright™ MRI is the only MRI system that uses
both solenoid ("wrap-around") and planar RF receiver
coils to achieve high SNR and broad anatomical coverage.
"The
Yale-New Haven Health System is a renowned leader for acquiring
new medical technology and providing optimal care for its patients,"
said Raymond V. Damadian, president and founder of FONAR Corporation.
"We believe Yale's purchase and installation of the Upright™
MRI sets the standard of technology which other research hospitals
and universities will follow."

About FONAR
FONAR was incorporated in 1978, making it the first, oldest
and most experienced MRI manufacturer in the
industry. FONAR introduced the world's first commercial MRI
in 1980, and went public in 1981. Since its inception, we have
installed nearly 300 MRI scanners worldwide. FONAR's stellar
product line includes the Upright(TM) MRI (also known as the
Stand-Up™ MRI), the only whole-body MRI that performs
Position™ imaging (pMRI™) and scans patients in
numerous weight-bearing positions, i.e. standing, sitting, in
flexion and extension, as well as the traditional recumbent
position. With over 100,000 patients scanned, the patient-friendly
Upright™ MRI has a near zero claustrophobic rejection
rate by patients. Approximately 85% of patients are scanned
sitting while they watch a 42" flat screen TV. Our latest
MRI scanner is the FONAR- 360™, a room-size recumbent
scanner that optimizes openness while facilitating physician
access to the patient. FONAR is headquartered on Long Island,
New York, and has approximately 500 employees.
